Key Takeaways
- ✓Single cots start from ₹399/day; queen with mattress ₹899/day; king ₹1,299/day
- ✓A king cot (6 x 6.5 ft) needs a bedroom of roughly 12 x 12 ft to walk around
- ✓Metal frames dismantle for narrow staircases; wooden frames look better in guest rooms
- ✓Past about three weeks, renting a cot beats renting a mattress on value per night slept
When you need a bed, not a mattress
There's a clear line. Up to about a week, a good mattress on the floor is fine and cheapest. Past that — a parent visiting for two months, an unfurnished flat while your own furniture is in transit, a guest with a knee or back problem — floor sleeping stops working. Getting up off the floor twice a night at 65 is not a small thing.
That's the moment to rent a cot.
The four sizes, honestly described
| Size | Dimensions | Really suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 3 x 6 ft | One adult, kids, study or staff room |
| Double | 4.5 x 6 ft | A couple, standard second bedroom |
| Queen | 5 x 6.5 ft | A couple with space; most Hyderabad master bedrooms |
| King | 6 x 6.5 ft | Needs a 12 x 12 ft room minimum to walk around |
The mistake we see most is ordering a king for a room that can't take it. The bed fits — it's the 60-70 cm of walking space on each side that doesn't. Measure your room, subtract the bed footprint, and if you're left with less than two feet on a side, drop to a queen. You'll be happier.
Wooden or metal? It's a practical choice
Wooden frames are heavier, warmer looking and feel more solid. Pick them for a master bedroom, a guest room that will appear in photographs, or a housewarming where the room is part of the occasion.
Metal frames are lighter, dismantle in minutes, and go up a narrow Miyapur or Kukatpally staircase without three people and a prayer. They also cost less per day. For a 4th-floor walk-up, a two-week stay, or any building without a lift, metal is simply the right answer.
Tell your vendor the floor number and whether there's a lift before they load the van. It changes what they should send.
What it costs
At Host My Guest: single cot frames start from ₹399/day. A double or queen cot with mattress, protector and pillows is ₹899/day. A king cot with mattress is ₹1,299/day. Weekly and monthly rates drop steeply — for a month-long stay the monthly package is usually a third or less of thirty daily rates, so always ask for it explicitly.
Buying the equivalent queen cot and mattress new is ₹25,000-₹40,000. If you'll use it for one two-month visit and then sell it, you'll recover perhaps a third. Renting for those two months costs a fraction and leaves nothing to store.
Bare frame or bed-plus-mattress?
Rent the combo unless you already own a mattress in exactly the right size. The combo arrives as one delivery with a matched mattress, protector, sheet and pillows, and prices better than sourcing the two separately. A queen cot with a double mattress on it is a bad night's sleep and a common self-inflicted mistake.
Delivery and assembly
Assembly should be included, and at a real vendor it is. Our crew brings tools, builds the frame in the room you point at, fits the mattress, and removes the packaging. At the end of the rental we dismantle and carry it out. If a quote asks you to assemble the cot yourself, factor in an evening and a friend.
The rule of thumb
Under a week: rent mattresses. One to three weeks: either, depending on who's sleeping on it. Over three weeks, or any guest over 60: rent a bed and cot. Furnishing a whole empty flat: look at full flat furnishing, which bundles beds, sofa and dining and prices better than item by item.
